ANNUAL TREE PLANTING: HRA LAUDS THE PEOPLE ON ENVIRONMENTAL REGENERATION

The Annual Tree planting exercise has been observed this yesterday.

The event took place at the Estate Junior Secondary school, Town planning way Ilupeju.

The Chairman, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala represented by the council's Secretary Hon Mujeeb Ayinde Daramola said the year's theme for the tree planting "Harmony with nature" aims to support continuous environmental awareness, motivate people to tackle the cause of effects of global warming and create an impact in fighting climate change.

Hon Ajala stressed that the tree planting exercise is a platform to promote green ideas, sustainable solutions, and practices in environmental sustainability.

"In Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, tree planting and environmental sustainability enlightenment programs have been held in the past and our people have benefited immensely from it," Hon Ajala said.

He urged the people, especially the private builders in the community to support tree planting and desist from cutting down trees in the name of site clearing.

HRA stressed the benefit of the green around is including but not limited to the provision of oxygen, water conservation, good air quality, climate amelioration, soil preservation, and wildlife support.

In his speech, the representative of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State His Excellency Dr. Hamzat Quadri, Mr. Dabiri Yusuf stated that: Tree planting symbolizes the survival of humanity for over a decade.

"The tradition of tree planting across the state has continued to build greener and healthier environments," he stated.

He said: "This year's occasion is not different as love is expressed to nature and promotes a balance in an economic and social environment for the present and future generations."

He noted that our attitude to the rival species tends to be forgotten with the busy activity around us as we take for granted the interdependence that sustained human lives with clean water, fertile land, food, and oxygen among others.

"Despite the positive progress of policies, science, and technology, the health of our planet is ringing very loudly to announce we must go into emergency to salvage our planet

"No city or country of the world is immune to the adverse effects of climate change, water, rising temperature, natural disaster, insecurity among others

"It was estimated that the cost of adaptation continued to rise as the Ecosystem can not keep up with our demands

" The gap between what we need to spend to adapt and what we are spending

"The environment crisis did not begin globally, it began locally," he stated.

He stressed that one of the most important of rearticulating human development should be geared toward nature.

"We can not be well developed unless our lives reconnect and be balanced and in harmony with nature," he said.

"The actions have been taken towards societal policies and plans with the Lagos State action plans (2020-2025) which the present administration is serious about incorporating climate-friendly into everything we do as a government," he stated.

The highlight of the event was the planting of the trees at the Town planning way Ilupeju/Oshodi roundabout by the representative of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Dabiri Yusuf, the representative of the Chairman, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA Hon Mujeeb Ayinde Daramola, leader of the legislative arm Hon Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja, Iyaloja general of Ojuwoye market, Alhaja Mufuliat Adebunmi, other political office holders, and heads of department in the council.

At the event was the representative of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Dr. Obafemi Quadri Hamzat ably represented by Mr. Dabiri Yusuf.
